The Seattle pacific university science department asked the senior visual communications class to individually design an infographic about the Longbranch whale displayed in Eaton Hall. For my infographic, I was given the opportunity to research the relationship between the Makah tribe and whaling. A fellow classmate and myself were later chosen to display our designs in the building.

The Longbranch Whale Short Film

Problem

Most are unaware or undereducated about the indigenous people and their traditions. More specifically, there is little conversation surrounding the cultural importance of whaling for some Washington based tribes, such as the Makah. The Gray Whale displayed in SPU’s Eaton Hall lacks information on the species, along with the whales meaning to people of its land.

Solution

Creating an infographic and short film explaining the history of the Makah tribe and their relations with whales to educate those who visit the whale display in Eaton Hall.
